TIDBIT IN A MINUTE: Why is Lagree not Pilates?

It's a fundamental difference in philosophy and engineering.

While both use a machine with a moving carriage, they are distinct systems. You should not perform a Lagree workout on a standard Pilates reformer.

Here’s why:

1. The "Why": Different Goals

  • Pilates focuses on alignment, flexibility, core stability, and controlled, precise movement.

  • Lagree is designed for high-intensity, total-body strength endurance, using slow, controlled movements to create muscle fatigue.

2. The Machine: Built for Different Purposes
This is the critical safety point. The Lagree Method requires its specific machine, the Megaformer, which has key differences a reformer lacks:

  • Heavy Resistance & Springs: Megaformers use far heavier spring tension to enable the slow, grinding movements of Lagree.

  • Secure Frame & Handlebars: The frame is wider, lower, and lined with multiple stationary handlebars for stability during intense, standing exercises.

  • Safety: A reformer's lighter build, higher carriage, and lack of secure grips make it unstable and dangerous for the dynamic, heavy-load exercises in Lagree.
